Hi everyone!
We were contacted about this current research study on gay men's health and thought we would share it with anyone who was interested in participating. Full details below.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Resonance Project is a collaboration of four national HIV organizations, three gay men’s health organizations (one of which is the Health Initiative for Men), and the University of Windsor.
In the last few years, there has been a lot of new information about HIV risk and prevention. We want to know what gay guys are hearing about what’s new in HIV prevention, how they’re making sense of that information, and how it’s changing the way gay guys are having sex.
If you volunteer to participate in this study, you will be asked to:
o Fill in a brief survey that collects background information about you
o Participate in a group discussion with other gay men for up to three hours
o In that group, we’ll ask you to give your opinions and thoughts about HIV risk and how new HIV information could affect gay men’s decisions about sex
You will receive an honorarium of $40 to thank you for your participation.
The information provided during these discussion groups will help those working in HIV prevention to identify how they can integrate new HIV information into prevention programs, resources and policies for gay men in Canada.
If you’re interested in participating in the discussion group, you can call our research moderator at 1-855-590-9541 (it’s a toll free number don’t you worry). He will ask you a few questions to see if you are eligible to participate. If you’re eligible and still interested, he will let you know when and where the discussion group will take place.
For more information you can e-mail resonancebuzz@gmail.com or check out their website at http://www.catie.ca/en/resonance.

Totally Outright 2013: A 4-Day Leadership Workshop for Young Gay Guys

Hello again everyone! We have found some more exciting news!
The Health Initiative for Men (HiM) is now accepting applications for Totally Outright 2013.
What is Totally Outright you might ask? Here is a short blurb from their webpage.
Totally Outright is a four day leadership workshop for young gay guys (18-26, but exceptions may be possible) interested in being healthy, sex-savvy trendsetters. Over two weekends you and twenty other young gay men will participate in interactive, thought provoking presentations from community leaders and experts in gay men's health. Topics range from coming out to gay sex, drug related harm reduction to relationships, and a whole lot in-between.
If you have additional questions, feel free to take a look at their webpage at (http://checkhimout.ca/totallyoutright/) or e-mail them at totallyoutright@checkhimout.ca
Fun fact of the day: The concept and creation of the Qnnecting website came from participants of the Totally Outright program last year and is continuing to gain amazing support from everyone in the community! Thank you!

For our fans of the theatre, check out Never the Sinner
Our qnnecting team heard of an awesome show coming up that's perfect for our theatre lovers. It's called Never the Sinner and it's a "brilliant documentary play about the infamous Leopold and Loeb case, a curiously queer case, known in its time as the 'crime of the century' and still one of the most notorious."
It's on for two thrilling nights from November 8-9 at 8:00pm at the Carousel Theatre (1412 Cartwright Street, Granville Island).
Admission is "pay what you can at the door", which is amazing too!
For more information about the event, the writer, the director, and the performers, please see their Facebook event page at http://www.facebook.com/events/273100946143338/.

VPL presents GLBTQ Read Dating!

The idea is simple but genius! Read dating (a play on the word speed dating) involves a group of GLBTQ attendees getting together and bringing along their favourite book, DVD or CD as a conversation starter. Everyone is given a pseudonym, a character from a GLBTQ novel, and will get to meet, greet, and chat up 12 other read daters. After the event, VPL kindly creates a separate email account to allow attendees to qnnect with others they would like to see again.
We love how superbly organized this event is, from the wonderful pseudonyms to the innovative icebreaker. If you are a lover of books, music and/or movies, we would highly recommend this event. In fact, we’ve got a resident bibliophile on the Qnnecting team who plans to attend.
More details about the event and how to RSVP can be found at http://www.vpl.ca/news/details/read_dating_-_glbtq. The next one is just a week away on July 21 2012.
